A new journey usually begins at the start of something, at the start of a road, the break of dawn, the opening of a door etc… but Len was never one for cliché beginnings. He arrived at Althea by boat, but was soon caught up in events that he had no control over. Bottom line, after doing various errands and whatnot, he was dropped of at Orepathe with equipment and money, oh and obviously with Hercules. But the machop doesn’t really count; they’ve been together for quite some time. Len’s journey really began at noon, at the outskirts of this poor mountain town. “Hey Hercules, you can come out now,” his voice rang. A flash of white, and a micro-human appeared! Well, not so much human… it was a humanoid. A blueish greenish humanoid, with three yellow streaks of something sticking out of the head, possibly mimicking hair. Oh and one more thing, this humanoid was ripped beyond imagination. Hard muscle adorned the creature, giving it a slightly threatening appearance for being only 2’07”. Hercules the machop looked around his surroundings; trees, grass, dirt and rocks- luxury living! He smiled and bellowed out a strong, “Chop!” “Right. Chop… umm, hey, that gives me an idea. While we’re here, might as well do something useful. You’re a young one, so you don’t yet know the move Karate Chop do you Hercules? I know more than my fair share of fighiting techniques, so I’ll help train you for it. Alright?” “Chop machop!” Machop exclaimed happily, flexing his many muscles and lifting boulders left and right to get warmed up for this activity. Len watched in amazement at Hercules’ ferocity in pre-training training. I thought I worked hard, but still, I’m surprised every time I see it, Len thought. Anyone would be shocked though; Hercules was lifting rocks bigger than his body and using them as dumbbells. From the look on Hercules face though, you could tell that he wasn’t really using the dumbbells to warm up (a machop is always ready for action); just that he wanted to let a bit of his energy out so he can focus on learning. After doing countless sets, the little muscle man threw the rocks aside, folded his arms and looked at Len with resolution that was much too mature for his young years. “Right. Let’s get started,” Len said, taking a standard fighting stance. “The Karate Chop is a simple attack, but can be extremely deadly. Human practitioners use it mostly to break bricks and wood, but as a Pokémon you can place it in your fighting arsenal of techniques.” “First, I’ll show you a standard break. Breaking sticks with a downward strike, it shouldn’t be hard but it’s the foundation you need,” Len said, as he busied himself with gathering up stick and creating a little training area. He took two rocks and placed them (with Hercules’ help) beside one another, placing a thick branch on top of them. “Humans,” Len said, “need to train their hand to become hard and ignore the pain of smashing it through objects. You shouldn’t need that, seeing as you’re all muscle.” “Machop!” Hercules explaimed proudly, puffing out his chest. “Okay, pay attention,” Len declared. He took a deep breath, gathering his energy and his position. In a lighting fast motion he shouted, “HURAH!” and the splintering of wood was heard in coexistence. The thick branch split in half and fell lazily to the ground, leaving Len’s hand stiffly in the air, “That’s the basic strike. Now you try.” Hercules didn’t need to be asked twice. He grabbed a branch, one twice as thick as the previous one, placed it on the rocks, took a step back and swung his fist into the piece of wood, which shattered and fell to the ground. He looked at Len with a smile on his face, perhaps expecting applause or something of the sort, but nothing came. Len spoke, “Hercules, I know you can smash through the wood without a problem, however a karate chop is about precision and speed. Watch my hand,” Len held his hand straight, pinky down and fingers together. “You strike with this part,” pointing to the side of the hand. “Now try again.” Without a word Hercules replaced the branch and went back to his stance. This time, he opened his hand and had the correct orientation. Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Hercules then raised his arm, and attack the log. It was a fast hit, but off center, so the log jumped up, missed Hercules’ head by an inch and landed a few feet to his right. Hercules looked at Len expecting a reprimand or something of the sort, but nothing came. Len smiled softly and without uttering a sound encouraged Hercules to attempt it again. And attempt he did; over and over again. For one reason or another, the strikes didn’t land right, they were off center, shallow, the form was wrong or a combination. Hercules replaced the branch once more and stared resolutely at it, time to shine. (OOC: I don’t know if this is enough to learn Karate Chop but I’m leaving it open ended for the ref to decide. If possible, whether or not Machop learned the attack, could I have a Pokémon fight, something challenging (higher lvl than Machop) but not impossible… I know big request from a newbie, but I’d appreciate it.) Branch after branch met their end at the hands of Hercules, each one shattering seemingly louder and louder than each before it. Crack, crack, it echoed through the entirety of the area you were in without any inhibitions. You know, for being on the edge of the city, it was rather dead, wasn't it? I suppose a city all on it's own in a desert next to a mountain had its own seclusion, no matter how open it was to the world to the south. Lack of water'll do that to a traveler. But matter or not, and it didn't, you were still trying to teach your Machop to strike exquisitely. Not that he had much luck with it. After all, baby Hercules here was more of a "Hulk SMASH" at this point of his life. maybe he just needed a little more battle experience before he figured out that not everything can be smashed with a fist? Practical use of something is the quickest way to understanding it, and therefore being able to learn it, otherwise it just seems like needless relish on top of the fighting hotdog, and Hercules liked his raw, as it seemed. Ahh, but look at this! It seemed as if it were meant to be! Out of the mountain there must've wandered a poor Geodude, because one was fast approaching, and it didn't look all to happy that you were on the outskirts of town all alone. it wanted to give you 'company', to say the least. Hey, atleast now your Machop could see that sometimes the hotdog of fighting tasted like a rock-fist in his mouth and that sometimes relish helped cover this painfully disgusting taste! Lvl 12:vit 100% (Lol, Karate Chop 60% learned. Maybe putting it to ACTUALLY use will help him discover his powers?) |

(hehe, nice food metaphor) Egads, it seems that no matter how many sticks he breaks, Hercules is just not ready to learn karate chop. Maybe he is just more of a hands-on learner? Luckily for our duo, a perfect opportunity arose to test that theory. All of the noise that they were causing must’ve disturbed some geodude from whatever it is geodudes do, and it chose to investigate. Rolling/jumping out of it’s hiding place, it appeared before Len and Hercules, looking grumpy (then again, all geodudes look grumpy anyway), perhaps blaming them for the commotion. The stony eyes relayed one message to the team, it wants a fight. And since Len is never one to disappoint, it wasn’t long before the thought of a battle entered his mind. “Hercules, someone here is a bit disturbed by your practice,” Len said slyly. This is a great first match up! Rock verses fighting? AND, it’s a geodude, machop have been known to train with the evolved forms in order to sculpt their bodies, he thought with glee. When Hercules turned his blue body to look at the rock standing a few feet away, a smile slowly broke onto his face, “Chop!” “Yea, that’s right,” Len said, getting prepped for the battle, “It looks like this guy wants a fight, a simple apology won’t do.” Hercules and Len mirrored each other’s next movements; they bent down and rubbed their hands in the dirt, followed by stretching, cracking a few joints, and entering a fighting stance. Pokémon battles may be one on one in the physical sense, but Len and Hercules have grown accustomed to enter with one mindset, “Alright. Let’s do this! Make your introductions with your fists!” “Machop!” Hercules answered loudly. His body was swarming with energy, all that energy from the training was building up to this; sure he hadn’t perfected the move, but why not now? “Greet him with your karate chop! I know it’s not perfected, but practical practice is the best method. Be careful though, dodge if he uses rock throw. If he tries a head on collision with tackle, smash his frame with your karate chop! Follow up your attack with low kick. Don’t be scared, you’ve broken rocks countless times, this time it’s just a moving one, now get to it!” Len commanded. Edited by Gold Rhino, Jun 16 2008, 01:39:05 PM.

With epic epicness epically presented in what could only be called epic epicness, Geodude came barrel-rolling down the rest of the mountain in a tight ball, presumably a defense curl. Once it finally reached your area near the trees by the base of the mountain, it basically POUNCED out of its defense curl and onto your Machop. Hercules caught him in the side of the head with a heavy kick; he had to react quickly, and it wasn't yet in him to be all like "LOL, KARATE CHOP!" Needless to say, Geodude felt that kick, and he felt it HARD. Relish or not, maybe Geodude was more of a mustard person. However, Geodude took a few steps back, and started tucking his arms in to find a good resting spot for his limbs while he consecrated his defense...oh lord, another defense curl? Hercules took this chance to go in for a punch, but as he looked closely for an opening, he realized there was none but the top of Geodude, which couldn't be approached properly with just a regular punch. it was then that the karate Chop sank in. It was all about opportunity and ease of motion. Bingo. The karate Chop struck hard, perfectly placed with the side of Hercules' hand, and Geodude shook, not being able to complete his hardening of defense, spinning slightly on a strange, invisible axis before plopping down to the ground. ![]() :vit 78% (Move learning takes some outta you!) ========================================= ![]() :vit 61% (Congrats! If someone added sound effects into these battle it would’ve been one for the ages. A kick from Hercules, “HYAAAAAAAAAH!” into Geodude’s side, followed by a, “KYUUUUUUUUA!!” karate chop… Bruce Lee would’ve been proud. But there were no sound crews or techno wizards here so only rough smashing and a dull thud entered Len’s ears. Ahh, but it was bliss, his Pokémon had completely taken advantage of the situation and performed beautifully, what trainer wouldn’t be proud? The Geodude, although of a much higher level, was knocked over on the ground, not finished yet, but it didn’t take a psychic to see how this battle was going to end. Hercules made no move after his arm crushed Geodude; rather he froze in amazement of his power. This was a karate chop; this was a technique, “Chop….” The thought of finishing the pebble off sparked in his mind, however he waited for commands before acting, quite wise for such a little guy! Bravah always told me, that the only justified reason for owning a slave was if you defended yourself against the attacker, and had his life in your hand. Isn’t this my situation now? Len thought, and decided quickly after. He walked toward Hercules and whispered, “If Geodude tries anything, you finish him with an all out karate chop.” The finish here was quite clear. “I was taught never to kick a man when he was down; I’m extending this teaching to Pokémon,” Len said, to both Hercules and Geodude. “Geodude, you attacked us without warning, and we defended ourselves. Now, we can continue this fight, but then needless pain will be inflicted on all of us. You can run away, but that would be simply dishonorable.” He kneeled toward the rock creature and extended his hand, “instead, why don’t you join my team?” The request might’ve been sudden, but Len wasn’t one for wasted words and all that jazz, “I know you’re strong, but together we can become even better.” For some reason, Len suspected that laying down flowery words would work better than absolute demands. Sure he put himself at risk by being so close to a hostile Pokémon, but Hercules isn’t the only one on this team that can smash stone. (Beside, he did have an ace up his sleeve, a bluish-greenish, muscely bound one, but an ace all the same) “It’s your choice.” Edited by Gold Rhino, Jun 17 2008, 05:29:21 PM.

Well somebody is happy now that their Machop has learnt Karate Chop. Although that was a victory for you, I wouldn't count that as a victory for the battle. If there is one thing you should learn about battle is that as long as one soldier in the war still has the heart and determination to fight, the war still goes on. It just so happens that the Geodude that you just met was that one soldier that wanted to keep on fighting. So now you will feel the true power of determination. Also, if there was one thing Bravah should have told you is to never approach a wild Pokémon that close. Bad things will happen man...bad things. So as you approach the Geodude, it laughed as it lifted up, its rock hard body struck you right in the face, sending you stumbling backwards. Blood would begin to run down the right side of your face, mostly your cheek, as you stumbled backwards. Taking advantage of the surprise attack the Geodude hurled rocks at your Machop, using its Rock Throw at full power. Due to the swift execution and suddeness of the attack, your Machop stood no chance of dodging or blocking the attack and took the attack dead on. Not only that but one of the rocks had stuck Machop straight in the face causing the Machop to bleed slightly from the left side of his face. It seemed that you were a little to soft on the Geodude and you suffered the consequences. That's life for you though. :male Lvl 5:vit 58% {bleeding from left side of face) vs. :male Lvl 12:vit 56% Edited by Bubbles, Jun 19 2008, 03:06:42 AM.
