Eater of Babies

Here we go, one last time. I just kept walking it needed no explanation really. The higher the team would climb, the better the feeling in my gut began to get. Scaling this mountain seemed to take forever, but I had a good navigator, Arc, who practically led the way, watching out for any loose rocks, or gaps that I may not make across. After making our way up a good 3-hour climb, our journey leveled out onto a rather long plateau that overlooked a very deep valley which was being blocked by a wall of tree tops. What we were looking for was somewhere in there, however, this wasn’t going to be one easy train ride down. The hard climb that took us up the mountain was about to get even more enjoyable as we now had to make our way down. Arc took a few steps towards the edge, and peered down. Backing away slowly he looked back at me, with a “are you crazy” look written across his face. I smiled and nodded as I made my way over to the edge. Trying to swallow was hard, as I looked down to see what was ahead of us. The sides of the mountains were more jagged and rough than the one side that we came up. The side was sheer vertical, there were no clumps of rocks in which to grab onto, and clearly this valley was man made…the sides were too smooth to allow visitors…With little to no foot holes, I recalled Arc to his ball and made this a solo act. The drop was going to be very long and quite painful if I fell, but I was a pro at this (not), why would I fall? Sitting down at the edge, I let my legs flow over the ridge, and scooted my ass up to the edge. Kicking the side of the rock, I made little progress in trying to clear a hole for my foot, but what little I made, was just barely enough for the tips of my shoes to slide into as I flipped my body around to begin my venture down. Twenty minutes later, I was still in my current position…gripping the ridge tight, as I felt my hands loose grip. What was even worse was. I felt my feet begin to slip out of the holes, as they were beginning to give way to the pressure and weight of my body. I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath and lifted my right foot out of the hole to attempt and move to another hole. Going for it blind was hard, as I sprawled across the wall, with my legs open spread eagle…Trying for yet another foot hole, I moved my left foot towards what I thought was a hole, and as I transferred my weight across to the other foot, it slipped out of the hole! I grasped the ground as hard as I could, but I wasn’t able to hold on anymore. My life as an adventurer was slipping away as I descended down towards my death… Edited by Zer0, Jan 17 2010, 10:03:47 PM.
