Okay, so, it's not at all required to have a PB for your character. I just thought I'd throw that out there first-thing. However, having a PB is always kinda nice. The problem is, sometimes it's hard to find one. This thread is here to help. First of all, here's three locations that are usually good places to start. /c/, the "Cute Anime Girls" section of 4chan. It's (usually) (supposed to be) worksafe. /cm/ is /c/'s spear counterpart. This means it has anime guys rather than anime girls, but is otherwise the same premise. Again, (usually) (supposed to be) worksafe. Safebooru is just like Danbooru, only, well, safe. This is kind of the point. Worksafe is good when it comes to PBs. Since I don't have any personal experience with navigating *booru sites, I asked Munch to provide a brief guide for the thread. It is as follows
Sounds easy enough. Now, remember, once you decide on a PB, you should always host it somewhere like Photobucket so you don't eat bandwidth that's not yours. In addition, pics hosted by 4chan don't stay there forever, or even very long in most cases. And, well, that's all I got. Does anyone else have any tips they'd like to share? |

Yep, I got a few thoughts. The first one, go here: Stock.Xchng Using GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), Paint.NET, or any other layered raster image editor (like Photoshop), you can use images from stock.xchng as backgrounds or as PBs. I happen to be a fan of using Urban Decay images as backgrounds to my custom PBs, which I usually either get from either the Business>People category or the People> categories. As an alternative, find a celeb you think would be appropriate, in most details. Play with the program you choose (I suggest Hue/Saturation Layers most of all) until the person looks like what you want - remember you can use layer masking as well as cutting. I also find that I'm often inspired by manga or comics - for instance, on an X-Men board, I play a character whose physical appearance comes from a Star Wars Expanded Universe character. I recolored him and his uniform to fit the concept I wanted.[/url] Edited by Astaroth, Sep 18 2009, 06:12:45 PM.

For those of us who enjoy using REAL PEOPLE because they actually... are REAL (mostly celebs/models, sure, but whatever, shut up) you can find resources on the following links (some of which require login, but well worth it for the resources you gain access to): For premade graphics for a HUGE list of celebs/models/people, you can look here. For a list of shit tons of models and actors broken down by gender and hair colour, you can look here. For raw graphic materials (hi resolution images) you can look here and here. The first is males, the second is females. Also, caution 2.0 (the first link listed) has forums where you can request graphics be professionally made free of charge to your specifications. The results are typically fabulous, these are artists. rcr (the second link) also has a section like this and higher quality artists but takes longer and is slightly more complicated... their requests forum wants exchange tokens or some shit. So go with caution <3 |
