(know how to use the HP and Gadge stuff? Tell me what all your curious about and I'll answer it each time we post) Ancelin stood in the arena once again. It had been a long time, and he almost forgot what it was like to see the crowd around them cheering them on. He remained cool though out this. Beside Ancelin stood his monster, a Pokémon not many got to see in their entire lifetimes. Coelus, the Areodactyl named after the god of the air. She was a magnificent Pokémon, of great strength, and beauty. She was one of a kind that was for sure, and today she would be the one fighting for Ancelin. With a few mighty flaps from its wings it skipped off the ground to move in front of Ancelin and await the opponent. He knew who his opponent’s name was, but he didn’t know what kind of Pokémon Cody was going to have yet. Ancelin was cocky however, and wasn’t very worried about it as of yet. Once he knew what he was facing, then he could decide if he had to worry or not. For now, it was best to remain calm and watch the events unfold. The arena was a simple standard Pokémon style. It had a large area of flat surface for both opponents to fight on. There was also an assortment of obstacles that either could use, including a small pool, some boulders forming a small mountain, some grass and brush, as well as a few other things to fit the more standard elements of Pokémon. All that was needed now was for his opponent to come and make his entrance. :aerodactyl Species: Aerodactyl, "Coelus" HP: 20/20 Attack: 2 | Defense: 2 Special Attack: 2 | Special Defense: 2 Agility: 2 Gadge 8/8 |

You want it, you got it Everything you needed and more You said it, I heard it Careful what you wish for Cody stepped into the arena, feeling the fresh air hit his face. He was sweating slightly out of nervousness. But he was proudly displaying his championship pins. The Pewter City Championship gleaming proudly, but shadowed by his Kanto League Championship. He got this challenge and accepted it immediately. He wanted to continue his dominance, and these arena battles were the way to do it. He stepped into his designated trainer area, looking at the opponent's Pokémon. An Aerodactyl. Intimidating, heavy, and strong. A beautiful creature. Unfortunately, Cody's Pokémon was superior. Quite superior. Deleted, defeated Everything you've ever been There's no mercy It's the way of the fist Cody let out Wartortle by his side, as he ignored the awaiting crowd's chants to start. He couldn't care less what those people wanted. They paid to see a good battle, not a rushed one. They could be just as patient as the trainer's. After all, they were mere spectators, not combatants. What importance were they? Wartortle glared at the opponent Aerodactyl, seeing his clear advantage by not only type but power. The Aerodactyl seemed fairly young, whereas Wartortle had a few notches on his belt. Strapped with rage Got no patience for victims Sick and tired of the whole fucking world! Cody stared at his opponent, studying him. He saw a fellow Arachnos in front of him. But he looked past that. He saw a challenge in front of him now. Despite being on the same team, this was no place for teamwork... or mercy. Cody tied back the wrap on his head to keep it out of his eyes. It was time to focus. Wartortle took his place in front of Cody, staring down the Aerodactyl. He gave the thumbs up to his opponent, who he knew little more about than a name and the occasional glance in passing. THis was his signal to go. Time to see what kind of trainer he was. I don't remember asking you about your imperfections You might win one battle But know this... I'LL WIN THE FUCKING WAR! ![]() Species: Wartortle HP: 18/18 Attack: 4 | Defense: 8 Special Attack: 6 | Special Defense: 6 Gadge 8/8 Edited by Cody Towner, Jun 14 2009, 06:06:26 AM.

Ancelin raised an eyebrow at the Pokémon that would be his opponent. Wartortle was a water type, giving it an advantage in moves over Coelus, and could pose some problems. Not only that, but it seemed to be a bit more experienced then Coelus was at battle, making it a little more of a threat as well. Still, Ancelin was not about to say he was going to lose yet. Coelus also had a move that was super effective against Wartortle and he had the advantage of the sky. These two things together would even out the opponent’s advantage. Still, it seemed as though Cody was very confident in himself. Ancelin supposed if he was in Cody’s position he would feel the same, but Ancelin also knew he could take overconfidence and flip it to his advantage as well. Cody still had to be very careful. Ancelin would take every advantage he saw in battle, and if Cody was going to let his defenses down for a second Ancelin would be all over him. Satisfied with his assessments and thinking quickly of a battle plan, it was time for Ancelin to start this fight. He moved his hand upward to the sky as he spoke to Coelus. His voice was dark, almost chilling, something Ancelin tended to do when he was talking without acting. “Coelus, start with Scary Face, then get into the air and stay there for the rest of the battle. I don’t need to tell you to avoid attacks.” Coelus listened to the orders and quickly let out a ferocious screech. The blood thirsty Pokémon didn’t really need to be told to make a scary face, as it was pretty scary as is, but when it started to do the move properly it was going to be hard for any Pokémon not to be scared of this beast. Saliva dripped from its fang covered mouth as it seemed to go into a blood lust. Its eyes seemed to flash red, as it roared out again at the Wartortle. It was pretty clear that Coelus didn’t just want to defeat the turtle Pokémon; it wanted to tear him to shreds and kill him in the most brutal fashion it could. If the Pokémon was scared it would definitely slow its movements. A second later Coelus would be in the air. It didn’t take long for her to get there, needing only a few strong flaps of its mighty wings. Coelus knew that the faster it did this, the easier it would be able to avoid attacks made from the Wartortle. :aerodactyl Species: Aerodactyl, "Coelus" HP: 20/20 Attack: 2 | Defense: 2 Special Attack: 2 | Special Defense: 2 Agility: 2 Gadge 7/8 Edited by Devlin, Jun 13 2009, 03:08:58 PM.

|last post edited with Wartortle's stats, sorry about that| Cody smiled. At least he was fighting a smart trainer. Not one of those trainers who think balls-out attacking will win them a battle. Wartortle took the Scary Face, and tried shaking it off as best he could. But Aerodactyls are quite scary-looking beasts. Wartortle wasn't going to be moving very fast now. So I guess it's time to even the playing field a bit. Wartortle was a beast. It's hard shell and powerful defenses were phenomenal. Since when does a tank need speed anyway? "Wartortle, use Withdraw!" Wartortle withdrew into his shell, and somehow physics makes that so his defense is higher, even when he came back out of the shell. I think Wartortle may need a visit from those physics policemen. Anyways, as Wartortle reemerged, Cody thought for a second. This was a dangerous thing for Ancelin to do. Leave all this time for Cody to think. Keep your opponent on his toes! Instead, Cody was given as much time as he needed to formulate a plan. "Wartortle... watch Aerodactyls movements closely... Keep an eye on it." Wartortle focused, trying to calm down from it's previous bravado. Now was a time for studious eyes. Wartortle kept a close look at Aerodactyl, following it's movements. "Time it, Wartortle... lead it on... now use a Water Gun!" Wartortle shot a Water Gun, aiming a bit in front of the Aerodactyl. Cody didn't know how maneuverable a flying boulder was, but he had a decent estimation. He was contemplating whether to use another move or not. He didn't want to wear out Wartortle too quickly, but he also didn't want to give Aerodactyl too much breathing room. After a short struggle, Cody decided to wait. Let's see how Aerodactyl reacts, shall we? Cody kept his eyes locked on Devlin. He wanted to see weaknesses. Fear. Where was it? ![]() Species: Wartortle HP: 18/18 Attack: 4 | Defense: 8 Special Attack: 6 | Special Defense: 6 (Speed -2) (Defense +1) Gadge 6/8 Edited by Cody Towner, Jun 15 2009, 11:33:02 AM.

Ancelin watched the battle without a word. He kept cool, calm, and ready for almost anything that was going to happen in this battle. If he was going to win, and being as Ancelin was cocky about his skills he didn't see how he wasn't going to, he had to keep his mind open and his wits about him. Right now, he knew Coelus had a distinct advantage as far as dodging. Even the oncoming watergun would easily be dodged with Coelus at this altitude. Watergun would hurt and was definitely strong coming from this opponent, but even carefully aimed it was too slow to hit Coelus before he could adjust his own flight patterns to dodge. As long as Coelus kept up a constant change in flight patterns no amount of careful aim from a watergun was going to hit her. It was exactly as Ancelin thought; as he watched Coelus swerve in the air away from the watergun that was in its path just a second ago. Icarus Wings gave the dinosaur amazingly good maneuverability, and it was showing it every second as it flew. It moved to fly past Wartortle and get behind him, heading now to fly behind his trainer. Of course, this wasn’t going to hurt anyone, or even really mess with Wartortle who could just , you know, turn around. Even still it was all part of Ancelin’s final plan. “Coelus, I want you to keep avoiding him. I don’t want you to take damage until I deem it fit. You keep him busy still; you won’t have to wait much longer till you can taste their blood. I won’t let you go down without a little my sweet pet.” Ancelin smirked as he finished his statement looking Cody directly in the eyes as he said it. He used it like a threat, wanting to get Cody to understand how serious he was about this match. He didn’t intend to lose, and he was in no way scared of Cody. Ancelin wasn’t the kind to hold back in fights. He would rip his opponent apart and let him feel every bit of the lose. :aerodactyl Species: Aerodactyl, "Coelus" HP: 20/20 Attack: 2 | Defense: 2 Special Attack: 2 | Special Defense: 2 Agility: 2 Gadge 8/8 |

Cody sighed quite loudly. What a complete waste of time. Wartortle had plenty of time to recover the energy from both the Watergun and the Withdraw he used. Aerodactyl had plenty of time to actually start the battle. And Cody had been standing at that spot for what seemed like a month just to watch a boulder magically fly through the air. Thanks but no thanks. Since Aerodactyl was dodging, then Wartortle was going to kill the dodging. Fuck this shiznit. Cody simply waved his hand to call Wartortle over and knelt down beside him. Cody talked quietly, since he had plenty of time to plot. Whispers and such to keep secrecy. "Wartortle, here is what you do. Shoot a Water Gun, and immediately start charging up a Water Pulse. Find out which direction the Aerodactyl is dodging too, and shoot the Water Pulse into it's path. It'll never see it coming." Wartortle gave Cody a thumbs up and faced the flying Aerodactyl. Wartortle lined up it's Water Gun yet again and shot it off. This would be too easy a move, Cody had even moved in closer to his Pokémon as if Cody wanted to help him out. Ancelin smirked darkly as he gave his commands to Coelus, although he didn't really know what Cody was going to do before hand, his entire plot of getting behind Cody seemed to work out. He gave his command quickly as Cody was moving in to give his. He didn't really care what Cody had planned, all he knew was he had his chance to move. “Coelus, dive… I want Cody in between you and that turtle. Make it fast; I don’t want you to take even more than a second to get to the ground! As soon as you touch that ground I want you to close any distance, and keep Cody between you. When you get up close, use Thunder Fang repeadedly and finish that turtle. You may get hit, but you have more than enough power to take it. As long as you don’t fuck this up you will be fine, and we will have our victory in no time.” Coelus turned its direction so it was facing both wartortle and Cody before diving at the ground letting his speed flying mix with the speed of falling. This would be enough to dodge the watergun, and if wartortle really wanted to fire water pulse afterwards, it would have to go though Cody to do so. Of course, wartortle could move and fire, or Cody could move and fire, but the second of hesitation would be enough to allow Coelus to get in closer to them, and even dodge rather easily as Wartortle had very little speed compared to Coelus. Coelus would have then made its way for Wartortle and Cody, and would have been overtop of them in a second holding Wartortle down. It would have done its thunder fang move three times, clawed at wartortle with one claw, held its head away from attacking direction with the other, crushed it, and generally go into a full fury against the turtle. It may have been able to pull off moves after this, but Coelus could take them. Sure, wartortle was able to take a bit more physical damage thanks to withdraw, but thunder fang would do full damage as it was a special type move. The most it would save Wartortle from is the crushing weight, the claws and how it would be trying to rip whatever it bit down on off. Not only this, but if wartortle did use a water type move the damage it was going to get from the thunder fangs would only increase more. Now, it was all who was doing more damage first. Something that Ancelin was pretty confident he could do. After all, Wartortle was able to do super effective damage, but it wasn’t able to claw and tear at every possible open spot on its enemy like Coelus could. Plus, ever time it did use its special attack, the thunder would hurt it even greater. The final nail came in Coelus having that slight bit more HP. Of course, this was not a sure fire win in any way. This was risky, dangerous and most of all… Extremely fun. :aerodactyl Species: Aerodactyl, "Coelus" HP: 20/20 Attack: 2 | Defense: 2 Special Attack: 2 | Special Defense: 2 Agility: 2 Gadge 2/8 Edited by Devlin, Jul 8 2009, 11:10:06 PM.

|Alright, this is where I'm adding the math in. I'll justify everything at the end, but I'm typing the post now while I have the math in my head. Just remember Wartortle has 6 in special defense. And since all you're stats are two, I'll do the stat bonuses as each 2 points.| Now Cody was smiling. Not only did his opponent use the environment to his advantage, but he even used Cody himself to his advantage. Wartortle blasted off the Water Pulse just as Cody moved out of the way. Oh, maybe not. Cody's ankle was pretty wet. But the rest of that Pulse smacked Aerodactyl in the face. That was going to hurt, but what really hurt was about to happen next. The Water Pulse is a decent water type move, for certain, but not strong enough to stop a diving boulder. "Wartortle, Water Pulse right into it!" Wartortle would need to charge up that Water Pulse, unfortunately. But Wartortle had all the time in the world. While he was getting bitten by a crazed Aerodactyl with electronic fangs. The Aerodactyl bit into Wartortle with a Thunder Fang. Wartortle didn't like that a whole lot, but Wartortle retaliated. Once the Aerodactyl released the fangs out of Wartortle, Wartortle released that Water Pulse at point blank fucking range. Math might KO the Aerodactyl, so I'll leave the rest of that up to you. But damn, Cody was feeling back in the element. The arena was so quiet, not wanting to miss a single moment. But Cody still didn't look to them. He kept his eyes on the Pokémon in front of him. No more staring down the other trainer. That guy knew what he was doing. Instead, let's fight. ![]() Species: Wartortle HP: 14/18 Attack: 4 | Defense: 8 Special Attack: 6 | Special Defense: 6 (Speed -2) (Defense +1) Gauge: 5/8 Alright, time for justify. Thunder Fang is a Tier 2 move. Super effective, that makes it Tier 3. You also have Special Attack at 2, making it 4. Wartortle's special defense is 6, so it drops it down to 1 damage. However, because you made the bit about attacking vulnerable spots and such. Multiplied by 2, makes 4 damage total. Now, to save YOU math, since I'm mathalicious right now... Water Pulse is Tier 2, plus STAB, so Tier 3, plus Super Effective, so 4 damage. Oh, and Wartortle's special attack is 6, so it's 7 tier. Multiplied by 2, that's 14 damage. Give or take any environmental factors you wish, like Aerodactyl rolling with it or only getting clipped or what have you. But the Second Water Pulse I'm calling a bit more damage on the second Water Pulse because it's point blank. But hey, maybe I'm doing it wrong lol. Feel free to do with what you wish, but your Aerodactyl might be KO'd. |

(( Spoiler: click to toggle And now, I make my move to dodge. In PvP battle, it is good to always say 'if' your move hits when describing it in a post Adding the word if helps. And never assume it will just hit. Remember, that each turn each player gets their chance to dodge the attack the opponent did the last turn. Think of PvP battles with diffrent phases to them. 1-st phase - The moments right after you left go of your last post, normally the point at witch the opponents attack from theirs is going to strike, think of this phase as the dodge phase, where you have the change to avoid the attack, and must describe how from the time you ended your move, to the time when your opponent attack would hit you, that you can dodge. 2-nd Phase - This is right after the dodge, the part where you state how your going to attack them back. If you are at all. You always have to try to make this attack harder for your opponent to dodge so that you can get a hit off much easier. If you give them less room to dodge, you increase the chance that they will not be able to come up with one in their next post. Best to think this over hard and cover all possibility. Just remember to stay in character when thinking. Of course, the phases can be semi mixed into one, but you should be doing both of these a move, and remember that your opponent will be doing them too. In my next post I will start with a dodge, and finish with attacking, exactly as the phase order i put up here is. You will notice most people stick to this phase order, and very rarely there a time suitable to mix and match them. Remember though, you never want to say you move hit, its always up to the opponent to decide that. Saying it just hit, its impossible to dodge is god moding, and at the same time, if they tried to dodge it an unfair way its god moding. PvP is a very careful balance and takes both players to remain relatively fair, know their own faults, and be able to admit a hit. Actually, I have a decent post structure that I'll explain each paragraph as I post so you get a good idea of how to maximize a battle post.)) (First paragraph I tend to recap events of the last move) Coelus had taken a nick of the water pulse damage, but other than that Wartortle seemed to do nothing more as Coelus was right on top of it a second later. It held down wartortles head with one claw, scratched at wartortles exposed flesh with another, and bit down on it with its jaws. All in all, this was a pretty intense attack against the relatively small by comparison turtle Pokémon. It may have had time to do the water pulse move again, but with the aero right on top of it, clawing at it like it was, wartortles water pulse move would have taken much longer to charge. (second paragraph I tend to make my ‘Phase one’. This is where I dodge, and give description of how I was able to avoid an attack and why. If I wasn’t able to avoid completely then I state it here as well, and if I was going to be hit directly I would also state it here.) Not only this, but wartortle’s head was firmly pushed an opposite direction, and a claw covered its view of Coelus. Wartortle may have got the move off, but it would have little accuracy as far as sight was concerned, and the move would have plenty of time to be seen charging by Coelus who wasn’t about to just take that painful son of a bitch. Rather, it would use its grip on Wartortle to flip the turtle Pokémon on its back as it was trying to shoot off the water pulse, making any attempt at hitting Coelus with it null and void. (Now that the first phase is complete, I’ll make this third paragraph my ‘Phase two’. Remember to put detail into an attack, as much as you can. You don’t want to give your opponent openings to avoid damage. Notice how I use words like attempt and could to show that these moves are not final until you post. If you are unable to dodge, then the moves become final for damage counting.) Coelus then pushed its weight back down on wartortle’s head keeping it away from her and with its other claw held down one of its arms. Coelus would use its massive weight to hold down the wartortle even though its slightly higher attack power. Coelus then attempted to bite down bit down into wartortle with another thunder fang. A little more like this and Wartortle would be out of the picture. :aerodactyl Species: Aerodactyl, "Coelus" HP: 14/20 Attack: 2 | Defense: 2 Special Attack: 2 | Special Defense: 2 Agility: 2 Gadge 2/8 Edited by Devlin, Jul 9 2009, 01:12:22 PM.
